Privacy Policy for Tide Chart Art

Last updated: July 23, 2026

Tide Chart Art ("the app") is a tide-visualization app for locations in the United States. This policy explains what data the app uses and why.

Location data

The app requests your device's location (coarse or precise, depending on what your device provides) automatically when it opens, through Android's standard location permission prompt — this lets it show tide and weather information for where you are without any extra taps. You can also trigger this manually at any time via the "Use my location" button.

If you decline the permission, or if you search for a city by name instead, the app does not access your device's GPS location — it uses your manually chosen location instead, and will keep using it on future launches instead of asking again.

Your location (or the coordinates of a city you searched for) is used only to:

Your location is sent directly from your device to the third-party services below to perform these lookups. It is not sent to, stored on, or otherwise accessible to us. The app has no backend server of its own — it talks directly to these public data providers:

api.tidesandcurrents.noaa.govTide station data and predictionsNOAA
epqs.nationalmap.govElevation data (to orient the art)U.S. Geological Survey

Each of these is a public U.S. government or open-data service, used only to answer the specific lookup described above. We don't control their data retention practices; see their own policies if you'd like details on how they handle requests.

Your location is never used for advertising, analytics, or any purpose other than the tide/weather/orientation lookups above, and it is not shared with any data broker or advertising network.

What we don't collect

Data stored on your device

Your display preferences (art style, weather mode, border settings, and similar) and your last-used location (so the app can reopen where you left off without asking again) are saved locally on your device using standard app storage. This data never leaves your device except for the third-party lookups described above, is never sent to us, and is deleted if you uninstall the app.

Subscription and payment

Tide Chart Art is offered on a subscription basis through Google Play. All payment information (card details, billing address, etc.) is collected and processed entirely by Google Play — we never receive, see, or store your payment information. We only receive confirmation from Google Play of whether your subscription is currently active, which the app uses to determine whether to unlock.

Children's privacy

Tide Chart Art is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
